We are not sure why Ireland are excluded from funding for grants.

In general, your oil tank isn’t something that will become more efficient if replaced so you are extremely unlikely to get a grant to replace it.
You will have to bite the bullet and buy one yourself .

Government Oil Boiler Scheme – Will It Return?
We say no. The government do not wish to rely on fossil fuel heating and are pushing the UK towards renewable heating.

This is due to the Governments drive to move away from fossil fuel heating and onto renewable sources.

Will Oil Boilers Be Banned?
This is part of the UK government’s efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions they have announced a ban for all oil and LPG and gas boilers being fitted in new homes in the UK by 2025.
This will force consumers to switch to alternative and greener options.
So when you need to replace your LPG central heating or oil heating , you’ll need to consider renewable heating sources or electric as LPG boilers will no longer be on sale.
Will I be able to replace my oil boiler after 2025?
You will still be able to use your oil boiler after the 2026 ban, but when it eventually stops working you will not be able to replace it on a like for like basis.
Oil boilers will not be manufactured anymore so you will need to find a different way to heat your home.
What is the life expectancy of an oil boiler?
The average life of an oil fired boiler is from 11 to 27 years.
Oil boilers compare favorably against electric heating which tend to fail sooner.
Natural gas has become the most common energy source for boilers in most parts of the nation but also fail sooner especially the condensing ones.
Of course this is an average figure and will depend on the make of boiler and if it has been regularly maintained.
Some oil boilers have been known to last as long as 30 years if they have been well looked after.
Regular servicing will help to identify any potential problems early on, and using high-quality oil for your boiler is important too.
Lower-quality oil does lead to deposits forming on the internal components of the boiler, which can shorten its lifespan too.
Are Oil Boilers Expensive To Run?
As you will be aware, LPG & OIL heating are the most expensive forms of heating .
Running an oil boiler tends to cost about 25 % more as running a gas boiler.
LPG heating is is a lot more expensive than mains gas, but it’s a cheaper option to installing electric heating if you are in an off gas area.
There are other costs too for renting tanks to hold the fuel.

Yes but you need to be in receipt of Pension Credit and not had a central heating system fitted in the past.

There are no oil central heating grants for 2023.

How Efficient Is An Oil Boiler?
Oil is very expensive to use as your main fuel but it is a more efficient fuel than gas or LPG.
Modern oil boilers can have efficiencies of around 85% to 95%.
A new condensing oil boiler will typically have an efficiency of at least 90% while a non-condensing oil boiler will be around 85% efficient.
Older oil boilers tend to be 60% to 70% efficient. Boilers decrease in efficiency as they age, so the longer you have it, the less efficient it becomes.
This is because oil boilers use nearly all of the heat and additional gas that’s created from the burning of fuel, turning this into extra heating energy so there’s less wastage.
This means you’ll get a good return on every unit of energy.

Will Oil-Fired Boilers Be Banned?
New oil boilers will be banned in off-grid homes in 2026.
All households will be encouraged to switch to heat pumps under government proposals.
We believe That There will be further incentives announced in the near future, with possibly the price of heat pumps being subsidised so that they cost the same as a new oil boiler.
Around 1.7 million, largely rural, households would be affected if the ban goes ahead.

- Check If Your Council Has A LA Flex Scheme In Operation
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is where everyone in the UK is eligible to replace their old boilers ( oil, gas , LPG ) for a Air Source Heat Pump for around Half Price.
The government will give you £7500 towards the cost of a new heat pump if you are upgrading from fossil fuel heating. Heat pumps will reduce your energy bills by around 30% per year and it is hoped that heat pumps will be the normal heating source in around 10 years or so.
Any Oil Boiler Grants Scotland & Wales
Both Scotland and Wales Are included in the Oil Boiler Grant Scheme. As both of these areas are very rural and will be off the gas grid, the government has prioritised both of these areas.
To encourage the take up of grants, both Scotland & Wales have a 35% uplift to scores which means that installers are well rewarded for replacing oil boilers here.
